Luckau (Wendland) is a village or a municipality in the south of the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony . It belongs to the joint community Lüchow (Wendland) .
Luckau is one of the Rundanger villages to be found in Wendland . The name of the place comes from the Slavic lauck and means leek or onion field.

Geographical location
The place is in Wendland about ten kilometers southwest of the district town of Lüchow (Wendland) . The southern municipal boundary forms the state border between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt

The municipality of Luckau belongs to the state electoral district 48 Elbe and to the federal electoral district 38 Lüchow-Dannenberg - Lüneburg .
Religions
In the community there are the Evangelical Lutheran parishes of Zeetze and Bülitz with the Luckau chapel community. Until the beginning of the millennium, they shared a pastoral office in Bülitz with the parish of Satemin . Today the parishes are linked to the clerical office in Clenze. The three municipalities form a working group in order to work closely with one another.
The villages of Köhlen and Kremlin belong to the Meuchefitz parish , which is linked to the coastal parish and other parishes in a working group and a common parish office.

economy
The Vogler Fleisch company, headquartered in the Steine district, was one of the largest employers in the region and one of the largest slaughterhouses in Germany. After the bankruptcy in 2017, the company in Steine was closed and around 100 employees lost their jobs. The Luckau community lost its by far largest business tax payer due to the bankruptcy. In October 2018 the municipal council decided to hold talks with the neighboring municipalities of Wustrow (Wendland) and Clenze about a merger, as the municipality was no longer able to act due to the lack of trade tax income.
