Ev.-ref. Leopoldshöhe Church

The Evangelical Reformed Church Leopoldshöhe is a Reformed parish church in the municipality of Leopoldshöhe , Lippe district . It is located in today's district of Leopoldshöhe. On the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone of the church by Prince Leopold II , the congregation founded at the same time was given the name Leopoldshöhe . It was not until 1921 that a political community founded from parts of the Hovedissen and Greste farmers received the same name.

The Ev.-ref. Parish church was built from 1850 to 1851 according to plans by Ferdinand Ludwig August Merckel . It served as a model for a number of other parish churches in Lippe ( Bega , Almena , Augustdorf and Schlangen ). It is a three-aisled plastered stepped hall in Gothic style elements with the windows and doors with a west tower and octagonal choir . The foundation stone was laid by Prince Leopold II on May 21, 1850. At the same time the parish of Leopoldshöhe was founded. After 17 months of construction, the church was put into service on October 12, 1851.

prehistory

Initially in 1668 there were considerations to build a church in Krentrup . In 1718 it was to be built in Hovedissen . Construction had already started there in 1719, but it was discontinued due to claims on the building site. In 1777 a letter was sent to Prince Simon August , but in the end they could not secure the financing.

The meeting point of the paths from Schötmar to Oerlinghausen and from Heepen to Lage was chosen as the building site for the church .
