Luke McCullough (born February 15, 1994 in Portadown ) is a Northern Irish football player , the defender is currently under contract with the Doncaster Rovers .

Career

When he was 15, he made his first appearance for Dungannon Swifts in the NIFL Premiership . He previously played for Loughgall Youth.

In July 2010 he moved to England for Manchester United . As captain of the reserve team, he came to 25 missions in the 2011/12 season. From January to March 2013 he was loaned to Cheltenham Town which was playing in Football League Two at the time . There he only played one game.

During the preparation for the 2013-14 season he signed a two-year contract with Doncaster Rovers on July 25, 2013 . He made his first game in the encounter on November 2, 2013 against Brighton & Hove Albion .

In the national team

In his first game for the Northern Ireland U-16s, he was named team captain. He also led his team at the Northern Ireland U-17 . On October 15, 2012, he played for the Northern Ireland U-19s in the 8-1 win over Moldova, where he shone with two assists. The day he signed with Doncaster Rovers , he was named to the Northern Ireland U-21 squad for the Milk Cup.

Under coach Michael O'Neill , he made his international debut on June 4, 2014 in a friendly against the Uruguayan national soccer team in Montevideo . The game was lost 0-1. In qualifying for the 2016 European Football Championship in France, he made two short appearances against the Greeks and Faroe Islands, who were beaten in the qualifying group. After Northern Ireland's first European Championship participation was secured, McCullough was added to Northern Ireland 's squad without any further test match participation . He was one of three field players who were then left in the tournament without use.
