Luke Tomlinson

Luke Tomlinson (born January 27, 1977 in Great Britain) is a professional English polo player and current captain of the English national polo team. He has a handicap of 7 in the UK and 8 in Argentina, making him one of the UK's top players.

Life

Luke Tomlinson was born into a family of polo players. His maternal grandfather was the founder of the “Woolmers Park Polo Club”. Tomlinson is the eldest son of Claire Tomlinson , one of the best female polo players, and Simon Tomlinson. His siblings Emma and Mark also play polo. Together with his family he runs the "Beaufort Polo Club".

Tomlinson received his academic training from Eton College and the University of the West of England .

His sporting successes include winning the Queen's Cup , the Gold Cup in Cowdray Park and the Coronation Cup. Besides England he plays regularly in Spain and Argentina. In 2008 he took part in the Alegría Park Hyatt team in qualifying for the Hurlingham Open and the Argentine Open , but lost just short of the El Paraiso team. In February 2009 he was part of the English team in the Westchester Cup and won a victory against the US team. He also won the Queen's Cup again in 2009 and took part with the Alegría team at the Hurlingham Open and the Argentine Open in Buenos Aires.

Tomlinson hit the headlines in 2004 when he, along with Brian Ferry's son Otis Ferry and six other pro-foxhunting activists , stormed the House of Commons to protest a law against foxhunting. All eight were sentenced to £ 350 fine and 18 months probation for disturbing the public calm.
