Luminița Gheorghiu

Luminița Gheorghiu (born September 1, 1949 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian actress.

Career

Gheorghiu attended the Institute for Theater and Film Arts and graduated in 1972. She attended Ion Cojar's class there . She got into the theater with the role of Mărioara in the play Sânziana și Pepelea ( Sânziana and Pepelea ), a production by Alexandru Tocilescu at the Cassandra Theater . After graduating, she got a job at the Mihai Eminescu Theater in Botoșani . From 1975 Gheorghiu played at the youth theater in Piatra Neamț , from 1976 to 2003 at the Bulandra theater (Bucharest).

Luminița Gheorghius film career began with the role as Catrina in the film Moromeții (Romania 1987) directed by Stere Gulea . She became known for her role as a nurse in the film The Death of Mr Lazarescu ( Moartea domnului Lăzărescu , Romania 2005), directed by Cristi Puiu .

Awards that Gheorghiu received include: The Golden Bear at the Berlinale for her role in Călin Peter Netzer's Mother & Son ( Posiția copilului , Romania 2013, English festival title Child's Pose ) and the honorary award from the Los Angeles Critics Association. Luminița Gheorghiu was invited to the 2006 Cannes Film Festival for her role in The Death of Mr Lazarescu .
