Lunascape was a Belgian trip-hop band formed in 1997 by Kyoko Baertsoen and Walter Hilhorst.
Band history
Baertsoen and Hilhorst first met in 1993 at the Brussels TV and Film School and began working on smaller music projects. Their collaboration was interrupted in 1997 when Baertsoen joined the group Hooverphonic and accompanied them on a tour of Europe. Then Baertsoen turned back to the project that would later become Lunascape. The group was originally called Calyx , but changed its name to avoid confusion with a London drum and bass band of the same name.
The first two albums Reflecting Seyelence (2002) and Mindstalking (2004) were released in Europe, followed by Reminiscence (2005) in North America. The last album, entitled Innerside , was released in February 2008. A limited edition of this album contained the bonus CD Otherside with 10 previously unreleased tracks.
In December 2008, Walter Hilhorst announced their breakup on the band's homepage.
style
Lunascape's music has been described as a "headstrong and experimental style made up of Asian and European independent elements ". Mainly because of the singing of Kyoko Baertsoen, Lunascape has been compared to Sinéad O'Connor , Cocteau Twins , Portishead , The Cranberries and Björk .
