The Lunzer See is a body of water at the foot of the Dürrenstein not far from the town of Lunz am See . The Seebach flows through the lake (it changes the volume of the lake three times a year), which rises from the Obersee (altitude 1113 m; length 790 m; width 300 m; depth 15 m), the Mittersee (altitude 767 m, length 333 m; width 50 m; depth 3 m) flows through and flows into the Ybbs (Ois) in Lunz (in this context the Lunzer See is also referred to as the Lunzer Untersee). Lake Lunzer See is inhabited by brown trout , char , bullheads , gudgeons (since around 1970) and perch (since around 1980, which have greatly reduced the minnow population). There is a restaurant and boat rentals on the west bank. Round trips with excursion boats are also offered on the lake. The University of Vienna , the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, and the Danube University Krems operate the Lunz Biological Station on the east bank of the lake for research and training purposes.
Floating stage
On the west bank of the lake there is a floating stage where music and summer theater are played. The concept comes from Hans Kupelwieser , an artist from Lunz. It is noteworthy that the stage is not lifted out over the winter, but the pontoons are flooded and sunk in the lake. Due to the low temperatures that occur in winter, the pontoons could easily be damaged by the strong ice pressure if they remained on the surface .
Throughout July, there is a summer festival for contemporary art called wellenklänge on the floating stage. The music festival more ohr less of the musician Hans-Joachim Roedelius takes place every year.
