The Lurker rock (of English lurker , lurking, Schleicher ' ) is a 3 m high cliff rock in Marguerite Bay before Fallières coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises from the sea 5 km northeast of Dismal Island in the group of Faure Islands .
The Royal Navy's Hydrographic Surveying Unit mapped him from aboard RRS John Biscoe in 1966 . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it so in 1971 because, mostly covered by ice, when the water level is high , it can be mistaken for an ice floe .
