Lust for Life is a song by Iggy Pop and David Bowie from 1977, which appeared on the album of the same name Lust for Life .

The song was written by Iggy Pop and David Bowie. Bowie wrote the music and Pop wrote the lyrics. The song features the haunted drumming of Hunt Sales. A similar drum sound was first used on You Can't Hurry Love by The Supremes .
The text contains allusions to William S. Burrough's The Ticket That Exploded from the Nova trilogy. In an interview in 1995, the Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek stated that the first lines of text refer to the late drug dealer Gypsy Johnny.
In 1996 the song was used in the film Trainspotting and became known to a wider audience.
Awards and Achievements
The song reached number 3 in the Dutch Top 40 in 1977. The trigger for the success was an appearance by Iggy Pop on a Dutch television show, in which he demolished part of the stage equipment with a bare torso.
The music magazine Rolling Stone voted the song 147th of the 500 best songs of all time .
