Lutz Matthei

Lutz Matthei (born November 15, 1945 ) is a former German soccer player. For Halleschen FC Chemie , he played from 1965 to 1968 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . Matthei is a nine-time GDR junior national player.

Athletic career

As a player in the youth soccer division of SC Chemie Halle, Lutz Matthei was appointed to the squad of the GDR junior national team in 1962 . There he played nine international matches as a striker, in which he scored four goals.

For the 1964/65 season he was taken over into the men's section of the sports club. The first team had previously been relegated from the league and played in the second-rate GDR league . There Matthei was used in 13 of 30 point games and was involved with four goals in the immediate resurgence of Halle. During the following season 1965/66, the soccer section of SC Chemie was spun off as Hallescher FC Chemie. Matthei was nominated for the league team, but was unable to establish himself as a regular player either in this or in the two subsequent seasons. Until 1968 he was only used in seven league games and only scored one goal.

For the 1968/69 season Matthei moved to the GDR league promoted Chemie Wolfen . There he stayed two seasons, in which he played ten out of thirty point games and only scored one goal in the first season. His last stop in GDR-wide football was the BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau . This played 1970/71 in the third-class district league and rose with Matthei in the GDR league this season. Also with Matthei (7 league matches / 0 goals) she rose immediately again in 1971/72, and Matthei did not return to higher-class football afterwards.
