NGC 6427 = NGC 6431 is a 13.4 mag bright, lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type E-S0 in the constellation Hercules .
It was discovered by Albert Marth on July 2, 1864 .
Due to a wrong identification of the guiding star , the observation of Édouard Stephan on June 23, 1870 under NGC 6431 led to a second entry in the catalog.
