NGC 6412 = Arp 38 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SA (s) c in the constellation Dragon , which is about 67 million light years away from the Milky Way .

Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class spiral galaxies with a companion of low surface brightness on one arm (Arp catalog) .

NGC 6412 was discovered on December 12, 1797 by the German-British astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel .
