NGC 6437 is a cluster of several stars in the constellation Scorpio . On June 7th, 1837 John Herschel observed it as “a very decided, tolerably defined semi-nebulous mass in milky way, with abundance of vS stars, forming altogether a telescopic magellanic cloud. It fills about a field and has branches and sinuses, and is altogether a very remarkable object ”, mistakenly mistaken for a star cluster and thus made an entry in the catalog.
