NGC 6394 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Dragon .
The galaxy was discovered on July 7, 1885 by the astronomer Lewis A. Swift using a 16-inch reflector telescope.
The notation of NGC 6393 and NGC 6394 is often interchanged in later catalogs; in the New General Catalog , NGC 6394 is indicated as positioned north.
