NGC 6383 is an open star cluster (type definition "IV3p") in the constellation Scorpio . It was discovered on August 3, 1834 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, which during two observations “a star 7th mag with a cluster of stars 12m assembled about it. the great star occupies the center. A very remarkable object "and" A curious cluster consisting of one large star 6-7m and some 15 or 20 small ones 13m clustering close around it "noted. A third observation, in which he noted "Cluster VIII class, 3 'or 4' in extent, a bright star taken", led to a second entry in the catalog due to the size of the star cluster and the indication of another guiding star under NGC 6374 .
