Wachgeküsst is the second studio album by the German hit band Wolkenfrei .
Creation and artwork
All tracks on the album were written by external authors. Most of the titles were written together by the authors Olaf Roberto Bossi , Felix Gauder, Oliver Lukas, Alexandra Kuhn and Oli Nova. All tracks were mixed, arranged and produced by Felix Gauder. The album was released under the Ariola music label and distributed through Sony Music Entertainment . The album was recorded in the Jojo Music Studios in Stuttgart . On the cover of the album - in addition to artist name and song title - Mai's upper body can be seen against the background of two blurred bodies. The cover picture was shot by the German photographer Tim Dobrovolny and designed by Jan Weskott. As a trained media designer, Mai worked on the artwork on the back of the cover.
Publication and promotion
Wachgeküsst was first published on July 10, 2015 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . The album consists of 13 new studio recordings, as well as three remix versions and one re-release. In addition to the regular album release, a premium version and a box set were also released. In addition to the regular album, the premium version includes a DVD with nine videos. The box set is limited and includes, in addition to the album and the DVD, a cloud-free “summer love” beach set with sunglasses and an embroidered towel, a hand-signed poster and 14 polaroids with a personal text by Vanessa Mai. Some electronics stores, such as those of the Media-Saturn-Holding group or online shops such as shop24direct, had a regular album edition, which was extended by one or two bonus tracks.
To promote the album, shop24direct shot a five-minute advertising film in advance, which could be seen on all teleshopping channels . The German music television devoted himself in a minute 65 TV special of the band and the program highlights for July 2015, including any start and end of commercial breaks were accompanied with songs of the album. As an official advertising partner, in addition to the already mentioned RTL , who reported on them in a weekly program at item 12, could also be won over.
One day after the album was released, the first live appearance at prime time for Wolkenfrei followed. In the ARD show The Best in Summer by Florian Silbereisen , they presented their first single cloud 7 . Silbereisen surprised shortly before the appearance in Mai, in which he invited her parents and placed them in the front row. Mai believed that her father would have another gig with his band that evening. Due to the fact that her father is also a musician, he never made it to a big gig in Mai, it was here for the first time. This was followed by other appearances such as on the ZDF TV garden , on Guten Morgen Deutschland and Immer wieder sonntags . The second single Wachgeküsst made another appearance on Silbereinsen, in his Saturday evening show 150 years of Schlager - the big celebration for the anniversary . On November 9th, 2015 a live album of this work was released with Wachgeküsst - Live from the Parktheater Augsburg .
Filtr acoustic session
The premium version of the album includes a DVD with nine videos. Seven of them come from the “Filtr Acoustic Session” at the Bader Studios in Weil der Stadt . Mai sang seven songs from the two studio albums that had been released to date with her accompanying band. From the debut album Endlos in love she sang the titles The magic potion is empty , jeans, T-shirt and freedom and you are my island . From kissed awake she sang the titles Sommerliebe , Zauberland , A tent by the lake and In all your colors . The supporting band consisted of Markus Braun (double bass), Martin Hauser (percussion), Andrea Josten (choir), George Kousa (arrangement and guitar), René Letters (drums), Florian Lipphardt (piano) and Nikola Sofranac (choir and guitar). To promote the album, the acoustic recording of In all your colors was released on June 5, 2015.
Cloud free cloud 7 - the TV special
One day before the release of Wachgeküsst , the German Music Television dedicated a 65-minute TV special to the band. The presenter Ingo Blenn told something about the creation of Wolkenfreis, its first years, the later entry of Mai, the first success with Endlos in love , the departure of Fischer and Kinski and the new album. In between, music videos and teasers for the new album were shown again and again . There were music videos about jeans, T-shirts and freedom , I promise you nothing and give you everything , You are my island , The magic potion is empty , A tent by the lake (Filtr Sessions Acoustic) , In all your colors (Filtr Sessions Acoustic) and shown twice to cloud 7 . Teasers turned into From Tokyo to America , South Seas wind on your skin , The head says no, the heart screams yes! ' It's already getting light over Berlin , give me the morning after , you touch my heart , summer love , rock festival , wake-up kissing and magic land shown. Only the exclusive bonus tracks were not given any attention.
background information
In April 2015, Wolkenfrei members Marc Fischer and Stefan Kinski announced that they were leaving the band. Since then, Wolkenfrei has only been embodied by the lead singer Vanessa Mai. Kinski left the project completely in order to devote himself to his family and his job as a roller shutter and blind construction shop. He can still be heard in the choir on this album. Fischer stayed loyal to the project and now works behind the scenes, acting as a musical advisor and tour manager. Thus Mai embodies with Wachgeküsst Wolkenfrei for the first time as a solo performer.

All lyrics are written entirely in German, especially the piece South Sea Wind on the skin contains the English line “Forever You” (Forever you). Musically, the songs in the field of moving Pop - Schlager . The regular album edition consists of 13 new studio recordings, three remix versions of songs already on the album and the song My Heart Beats Schlager . The latter piece was published in January 2015 as part of the “My Heart Beats Schlager” campaign, which Mai became the first godmother to embody. The pieces are all sung by Vanessa Mai. The voices of Annasarah, Olaf Roberto Bossi, Stefan Kinski , Jennifer Marsala, Jutta Mesch and Oli Nova can be heard in the background . The instruments were recorded by Hannes Butzer (guitar), Felix Gauder (keyboard) and George Kousa (guitar).

Single releases
Two months before the album was released, the single Wolke 7 was released on May 22, 2015 . The single reached the German single charts a week after Wachgeküsst entered the chart . Cloud 7 reached the charts in Germany for the first time on July 24, 2015 and was at position 54; in Austria, the release of the physical sound carrier made it chart entry at position 71. On Radio VHR, the track was at position one on the airplay charts. It was the first number one airplay success for Wolkenfrei. The single also placed in the "DJ Top 100 National Charts" at number one. The tracks In all your colors and Sommerliebe were also available for download before the album was released, an official single of the two songs has not followed to this day. Two months after the album was released, the second single from the album followed with Wachgeküsst . The so far last single In all your colors was released on December 11th, 2015.

On April 7, 2016, Mai was awarded an ECHO Pop in the category artist / group of German-language hits for the success of the album last year, where she was able to prevail against Fantasy , Klubbb3 , Wolfgang Petry and Semino Rossi .

Charts and chart placements
Wachgeküsst reached position seven in the album charts in Germany and stayed in the top 10 for a total of four weeks and 33 weeks in the charts. In Austria, the album reached position six and stayed in the top 10 for three weeks and in the charts for 22 weeks. In Switzerland, the album reached position 25 in twelve weeks of the chart. In 2015, Wachgeküsst was in 84th position in the annual German album charts and 56th in Austria. In addition, the album was able to stay at the top of the official top 20 hits in Germany for a total of six weeks .
For Wolkenfrei this is the second chart success in all three German-speaking countries after Endlos in love . It is her first top 10 success in Germany and Austria. With Wachgeküsst , Wolkenfrei entered the album charts for the first time. To date, no album has placed higher or longer in all three countries.

Awards for music sales
In January 2016, Wachgeküsst was awarded a gold record in Austria for over 7,500 units sold. In February, a gold record was also awarded in Germany for over 100,000 units sold. The album was awarded gold twice across Europe for over 107,500 copies sold. It was the first gold record that Wolkenfrei received in their career. The debut album Endlos in love only received an award later.
