Wolkenfrei was a German hit band from Aspach (near Backnang) , which from 2015 consisted solely of the lead singer Vanessa Mai . In 2016, Mai also dropped the stage name.
history
Marc Fischer Band (1999-2010)
In 1999 Marc Fischer and Stefan Kinski met for the first time during a ski trip. Both were already active as musicians at this point, Fischer with Schlager cover songs and an Elvis show, Kinski with rock and jazz . The result was the first band of the two with the name Marc Fischer Band . Together with the singer Heike Wanner, they had several live performances in the following years.
Formation of Cloud Free (2011–2012)
In 2011 the band changed its name to Wolkenfrei and switched to pop music . In the summer of 2012, the then singer Wanner had to leave the group for health reasons. During a concert at the Aspacher Sonnenhof , Fischer and Kinski met Vanessa Mai, who was in the audience. Her father plays in the house band Musik-Express , which performed there that evening. Mai was recruited as a singer for the band.
First studio album Endless in love (2013-2014)
After about a year, the band released their debut single Jeans, T-Shirt and Freiheit on July 19, 2013 . Even before the first album was released, they were released on November 20, 2013 with a smago! Award as hit tip 2014 . From November 26, 2013 to January 19, 2014, Wolkenfrei played together with Sascha Heyna in the support program during the Fantasy Tour Endstation Sehnsucht Tour . The tour led through 16 German cities and once to Austria. Around 15,000 people attended the concerts during the tour. Half a year after the debut single was released, on January 4, 2014, the second single, Du bist Meine Insel, followed . The debut album Endlosliebbt was finally released on February 7th, 2014. Fredi Malinowski from Fantasy , Tobias Reitz and Thomas Rosenfeld , among others, could be won as authors. The album was produced by Felix Gauder, who had already worked with Sandra , Bad Boys Blue , Jimmy Somerville , E-Rotic and the Pet Shop Boys . The album was simultaneously able to place itself in the album charts in all DA-CH countries . One week after the release of the debut album, Wolkenfrei took part in the series of events Die Schlager des Jahres Tour 2014 , which took them through 19 German cities within five weeks. On June 6, 2014, the band released their third single I promise you nothing and give you everything . On August 8, 2014, they organized the first Wolkenfrei summer party in their home town of Aspach. The fourth single Champs-Élysées followed on August 29, 2014 .
Band exits and the end of Wolkenfrei (2015)
On March 6, 2015, the last single from their debut album was Der Zaubertrank ist leer . With this release, the new studio album was announced. In April 2015, Wolkenfrei members Fischer and Kinski announced that they were leaving the band. Since then, the project has only been embodied by the front singer Mai. In the future, Kinski will dedicate himself to his family and his civic job. Fischer now acted as musical advisor and tour manager. With the release of the second studio album Wachgeküsst , Mai initially appeared on her own with the suffix "Cloud-free star Vanessa Mai". At the beginning of 2016 she finally gave up and only appears under her own name.

Marc Fischer
- Born on May 19; Before his career as a musician, Fischer worked in the sales department of a sports shoe company; he is a trained tennis teacher and father of two children.
Stefan Kinski
- Born on November 4th; Before his music career, Kinski worked as a roller shutter and blind manufacturer. He is now back in this profession. He is married and has two children.
Heike Wanner
- The band's first female singer from 1999 to 2012.
- Born on May 2, 1992; Before starting her career, Mai completed vocational training as a media designer . She has been married to the former Wolkenfrei manager Andreas Ferber since 2017 .
