The Luxtorpeda was a Polish luxury train in the form of a fast rail car series SAx90080 - SAx90085, who in the 1930s by Fablok in Chrzanów was built. The official name was Pociąg Motorowo-Ekspresowy MtE , but the train was called Luxtorpeda from the start , a combination of the words luxury and torpedo , which alludes to the fact that the train was luxuriously equipped and, for the time, was 115 km / h fast.
Structure and technology
From 1933 to 1939 the Polish company Fablok manufactured the Luxtorpeda in its factories. The train was developed by the engineer Klemens Stefan Sielecki , who further developed an Austrian model from the manufacturer Austro Daimler. The train was powered by diesel engines.
commitment
The Polish State Railways used the Luxtorpeda mainly for connections from Krakow , especially between Krakow and Zakopane and other health resorts in the Polish Carpathians . During the German occupation , the Luxtorpedas , which were not destroyed by acts of war, were used "only for Germans". Only two Luxtorpedas survived World War II. The last Luxtorpeda was taken out of service in 1954.
