Lycium tetrandrum is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
description
Lycium tetrandrum is a 1 to 3 m high, rigid, heavily branched and very prickly , diocesan shrub . Its leaves are succulent and hairless. They become 10 to 15 mm long and 2 to 3 mm wide.
The flowers are four or five-fold. The calyx is tubular and hairless. The calyx tube becomes 2.5 to 3 mm long and is covered with 0.5 to 0.8 mm long calyx lobes. The crown is hemispherical and spreading. It is creamy white in color, occasionally the corolla lobes are pale violet and the veins are purple. The base of the stamens is hairy tomentose.
The fruit is a red, spherical berry with a diameter of 3 mm.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 72.
Occurrence
The species is widespread on the African continent and occurs there in South Africa in the provinces of the Western Cape and North Cape , as well as in Namibia .
