Lyctocoris dimidiatus is a bug from the genus Lyctocoris . Some authorsassign this tothe family of flower bugs (Anthocoridae), others assign it to a separate family Lyctocoridae .

features

The bugs have a size of 3.6-4.6 mm. The head, pronotum , shields , a large part of the hemispheres and the ventral side of the abdomen are brown-black. The base of the corium as well as the middle area of ​​the clavus is colored red-brown, so that they together form a broad red-brown transverse band interrupted in the middle over the half-ceilings. The tip of the clavus is colored red-brown and at the transition from Corium to Cuneus there is a red-brown spot. The otherwise white membrane has a dark brown spot at the base and at the top. The antennae are colored red-brown or brown-black. Typically for the genus, they consist of four members, the first two being significantly thicker than the third and fourth. Legs and proboscis (rostrum) are colored red-brown. The anterior femora are more strongly built than the middle and posterior ones.

Lyctocoris dimidiatus occurs in the middle, south and east of Europe. The species is also represented in Madeira and the Canary Islands . Together with Lyctocoris campestris, it is one of two species of the genus in German-speaking countries.

Way of life

The bugs are often found on dead wood, under loose bark, in bird nests and in the burrows of various mammals. They are predatory on small insects and various arthropods . The adults hibernate.
