Lyndon Fitzgerald Hooper (born May 30, 1966 in Georgetown , Guyana ) is a retired Canadian football player .

Athletic career

Hooper made his debut in 1987 for the Ottawa Pioneers in the Canadian Soccer League . In 1988 he joined the newly formed club Montreal Supra , before moving to league rivals Toronto Blizzard in 1990 . In 1993 he moved to English club football, but did not gain a foothold at Birmingham City and returned to North America after a season. He then played for Montreal Impact until 1998 . After a season with the Hampton Roads Mariners in 1999, he played two seasons with Toronto Lynx from 2000 . Afterwards he was still active in the amateur field before he returned to Toronto Lynx as an assistant coach in 2005.

Between 1986 and 1997, Hooper played 66 international matches for the Canadian national team . In qualifying for the 1994 World Cup , he only failed in the intercontinental play-offs to Australia on penalties . He scored his third international goal in the 2-1 defeat in the second leg with the interim equalization. After leaving, he ended his national team career.

Hooper also played indoor soccer at times . Among other things, he took part in the Futsal World Cup in 1989 .

In 2011, Hooper was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame .
