features

It becomes five to six inches long. The belly, flanks and legs are yellow, the back red, with a white longitudinal band in the middle. Way of life

Indo-Pacific white-banded cleaner shrimp live in pairs or in large groups of up to 100 animals. They clean fish from parasites , dead skin fragments, and otherwise eat detritus . The cleaning service is offered to the fish through characteristic feeler movements. White banded cleaner shrimp are hermaphrodites . Each specimen has male and female sex cells. After moulting, the shrimp (in the female role) can be fertilized. The eggs are greenish and are initially carried under the abdomen . After hatching, the larvae are transported into the open water by beating the gill feet.

Aquaristics

Indo-Pacific white banded cleaner shrimp are the most commonly imported shrimp for keeping in saltwater aquariums . They are durable, peaceful and do not harm other invertebrates. During the acclimatization they have to be accustomed to the aquarium water very carefully, otherwise they will suffer an osmotic shock and die from it. They live to be around two years in the aquarium. They have also been bred in captivity.
