The MÁV VIII were luggage locomotives ( steam railcars ) of the MÁV .
In 1880, MÁV decided, following the trend of the times, to acquire an Elbel system steam multiple unit for test purposes in Floridsdorf . The railcar was extensively tested on the Vrpolje - Šamac route in Croatia near the Bosnian border, before two more vehicles were ordered for the same route and three for Aranyosgyéres - Torda in Transylvania in 1884 .
Since more powerful machines were soon required on the Vrpolje – Šamac route , the three vehicles stationed there were used from 1907 in shunting operations at the main workshops in Budapest -Istvantelek, Temesvár and Debrecen . In 1912 the other three machines in Kolozsvar were also parked or assigned as a reserve. The steam railcar, now referred to as 150.005, was retired in 1915, the 150.001 and 004 were also collected by 1918. The 150,002 and 006 came to the CFR after 1918 . The remaining 150.003 was retired in 1922.
