Anton Elbel

Anton Elbel (born January 6, 1834 in Vienna , † October 3, 1912 in Baden ) was an Austrian engineer and locomotive designer.

Life

Anton Elbel received part of his training at the Polytechnic Institute in Vienna .

In 1856 he began to work for the Carinthian Railway . When it came to the private Südbahn in 1859 , he joined the company and worked in the Südbahn design office in Vienna from 1860 to 1867. After that he was inspector of the general contractor for the construction of the Hungarian Western Railway for a few years . From 1872 to 1892 he was with the Austrian Northwest Railway , most recently as central inspector and head of the design office. In 1874 he designed an express locomotive, which was later manufactured as the ÖNWB Ib series . He was also involved in component development, e.g. B. successful with a four-wheeled front frame. At the end of 1890 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order .

Together with Louis Adolf Gölsdorf , he designed baggage locomotives for economical operations that were used on several Austro-Hungarian railways. In 1879 the kkStB 3.0 01 was built at his suggestion, later also a kkStB 3.002 for the Kremsier railway . In 1890 the kkStB 163 was created based on his designs .

Anton Elbel was also active in the Austrian Association of Engineers and Architects and was elected to a board of directors of the association in 1879.
