The steam locomotive series ÖNWB Ib was an express train steam locomotive with a tender of the Austrian Northwest Railway (ÖNWB).

The machine director of the ÖNWB Elbel designed a 2B express locomotive based on the model of the RITTINGER , two of which the locomotive factory Floridsdorf produced in 1874. The machines were given the numbers 82 and 83 , the names FOUCAULT and LIVINGSTONE , and formed the Ib series at the ÖNWB  .

The cylinders , rod bearings, the cross head and the fittings were the same as those of the ÖNWB IIIa and ÖNWB IIIb , the coupling wheels were identical to those of the RITTINGER . The low boiler position and the sagging fire box were conceptually adopted from this. However, in order to prevent overloading of the bogie axles, the weight was transferred to the bogie through a ball socket . This design was used in all express locomotives of the Hungarian State Railways after 1882.

The engines were locomotives running at 80 km / h, but had a high consumption of coal and were unpopular with the locomotive drivers because of their strong jolting and jolting. The driving axle and driver's cab are at the rear of the locomotive.

Like the RITTINGER , they were used in front of the express trains Vienna - Znaim . Because of the crash on the stock exchange in 1873, however, no machines of this type were reordered, and express locomotives were only procured again in 1881 (series ÖNWB Ic and Id ).

The FOUCAULT was withdrawn from the ÖNWB in 1909. The LIVINGSTONE 1898 got the kettle of Ic no. 84 , still came to kkStB and formed in 1907 the number  401 . It was retired in 1911.
