Louis Adolf Gölsdorf (born February 16, 1837 in Plaue , † November 28, 1911 in Vienna ) was an Austrian engineer and locomotive designer. He was the father of Karl Gölsdorf , who later became head of the section and head of the mechanical engineering section in the old Austrian Ministry of Railways, and of Rudolf Gölsdorf, who became the deputy director of the Austrian Federal Railways.

Louis Adolf Gölsdorf received his training in Chemnitz and Dresden at technical institutes and then worked in the technical service at the Leipzig-Dresden Railway . In 1860 he was hired as a mechanical engineer at the StEG locomotive factory in Vienna , but in 1861 he moved to the Südbahn , where he soon took a leading position in the locomotive design office. From 1885 to 1908 he was machine director of the southern railway.

In addition to his own locomotive designs, together with Anton Elbel , he designed baggage locomotives for economical operations that were used on several Austro-Hungarian railways.
