Mâcon (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mâcon is a family of the southern French-Burgundian nobility, first attested at the beginning of the 10th century.

history

The progenitor is Maiolus (Mayeul), Vice Count of Narbonne (which is why the name of the family could also refer to Narbonne), whose younger son Albericus (Aubry) inherited the Vice County of Mâcon , where he made himself count, taking advantage of a political vacuum. A branch line of the Counts of Mâcon are the first Lords of Salins .

In the female line, Maiolus , the abbot of Cluny , probably also belongs to the family, although the connection has not yet been proven.

Both in the county of Mâcon and in the lordship of Salins, the family was inherited by the Burgundy-Ivrea family .
