history

In 1919 the Ursulines zu Fritzlar founded a girls' college in Großauheim. Just three years later they had to give up school, instead the poor school sisters of Our Lady on the Brede took over the sponsorship. In 1939 the school was closed by the National Socialists . It was reopened in 1947. In 1953 a modern school building was built on the site. In 1988 the poor school sisters gave up their sponsorship for reasons of age and handed them over to the diocese of Fulda, but they remained in the school building until 1999. In 2004 the school was modernized.

The historic school building was built as an inn in 1846 . Today it is a cultural monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act.

School life

The St. Josef School is a Christian school which, in addition to imparting knowledge, would like to offer young people a "heart education".

The mission statement “Give each other space for courage and responsibility” was created in 2015 with the participation of all committees of the school community. It represents the mission, the values, but also the vision for future school action. The mission statement was packaged in a puzzle logo: the school wants to be a good community, give each other space for development, development and change, it wants girls to be strong and make them courageous and educate them to take responsibility.

As a Christian school, the girls' secondary school St. Josef is particularly committed to protecting the environment and has been certified as an environmental school by the Hessian Ministry of Culture.

Schoolchildren in the 9th and 10th grades are offered the opportunity to participate in the ecumenical youth meeting of the Taizé Community in France . There is also a trip to England in the 8th grade. For this week the students live with English host families.
