The route network of the Moravian-Silesian Northern Railway

The Moravian-Silesian Northern Railway was an independent company of the kk exclusively priv. Kaiser-Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB), which managed the routes with a state guarantee.

history

The Moravian-Silesian Northern Railway goes back to plans by the Austrian state for a network of "Moravian State Railways" that began immediately after the German War of 1866. The aim was to alleviate the state of emergency in Moravia after the lost war. A consortium of Moravian landowners applied for the construction of the Brno - Olomouc - Sternberg line with a branch line to Prerau , but they were unable to raise the necessary financial resources.

The second applicant for the route construction came shortly afterwards, the KFNB, which on March 11, 1867 received the approval for a railway from Brno via Wischau and Proßnitz to Sternberg with a branch to Prerau.

In contrast to the main network, the KNFB ran the routes as its own accounting body, which was named "Moravian-Silesian Northern Railway" at the general assembly on April 15, 1867. The KNFB received the approval from the state to raise the estimated costs of building the line of 14 million guilders by issuing priority bonds with 5 percent interest.

The final license was granted to the KFNB on May 6, 1867. The basis of the license was the Railway Concession Act of December 14, 1854. The company was obliged to start construction of the lines within six weeks and to commission them within three years. In addition, the concession deed allowed that the line was initially only allowed to be single-tracked. The laying of a second track was only required with an annual gross profit of 180,000  florins per Austrian mile for two consecutive years. The duration of the concession was set at 99 years from the date the concession was granted, but redemption by the state was possible at any time after 30 years. The guarantee of the state extended to the amount “ which is necessary for the interest and amortization of the effects emitted to raise the railway investment capital ”. The lines were opened in the years 1869/70.

The Moravian-Silesian Northern Railway was nationalized together with the KFNB on January 1, 1906. The routes became part of the network of the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB).
