The Mössensee is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District 4.5 kilometers south of Mirow in the south of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The Mössensee is part of the chain of lakes south of Mirow consisting of Zotzensee , Mössensee, Vilzsee , Mirower Adlersee, Zethner See , Schwarzer See and Fehrlingsee .
It is around 2.5 kilometers long and between 100 and 300 meters wide. It has an elongated, narrow shape from north to south, which is more reminiscent of a river than a lake. The lake has its inflow from the Zotzensee in the north and its outflow to the Vilzsee in the south. In the southern part of the lake has two distinct bays. In the west the lake borders on the Mirower Holm peninsula. The shores of the lake are almost entirely wooded and covered with reeds.
The lake is part of the 32-kilometer-long federal waterway Müritz-Havel waterway of waterway class I; The Eberswalde Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible .
