Mühlendamm (Lübeck)
The Mühlendamm is a street in Lübeck's old town .
location
The Mühlendamm is located in the southwestern part of the old town island ( Marien Quartier ) and runs in an approximately north-south direction. It begins at the meeting of the large building yard and the small building yard below the cathedral towers , passes the archive of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck , then passes over the confluence of the model railway at Lütgendorff Park into the actually named Mühlendamm, which damms the mill pond , and finally ends with it the confluence with Wallstrasse .
history
The mill dam was raised in 1290 in order to create water retention and building sites for the new municipal water mills , which replaced the previous mills on the mill bridge . For almost seven hundred years, until the 1950s, the mill dam was the location of the municipal mills, the most recent buildings of which from the late 19th century still exist.
De grote Molendamm was first documented as a street name in 1615 . The current name has been officially established since 1852.
Buildings
The house Mühlendamm 20 consists of a common plastered classical facade from 1825, which was put in front of two houses. The two buildings, which date back to the years 1550 to 1559, originally served the gatekeeper of the Mühlendamm and a municipal powder maker , and later an official of the Malzmühle as official apartments. The exterior of the house has been a listed building since 1976 .
