Munich Française

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Française developed from several French counter dances of the 18th century. As the name suggests, the Münchner Française (pronunciation: Frangßähs) has developed its independence in and around Munich. It emerged from the beginning of the 19th century, i.e. shortly before the life of King Ludwig II. In contrast to the Française, which largely disappeared as a fashion dance, the Munich Française continued to expand. It is closely related to the quadrille and, like this, is often danced to the bat quadrille by Johann Strauss (son) . After the Second World War , it was primarily the Munich dance teacher Peps [Joseph] Valenci (1892–1977) who shaped the Munich Française and made it popular.

The Munich Française is still danced on many occasions and is becoming increasingly popular.
