The Alfons Goppel Foundation , based in Munich , has been supporting children in developing countries with sponsorships and (special) donations since 1980. The focus of development aid is education . Various aid projects are supported together with volunteers, schools, church institutions, political representatives (including Thomas Goppel and Angelika Niebler ) and a development association. With sponsorships, the foundation enables the children to attend school at a cost. This is not only a sustainable form of help, but also creates personal contact between the sponsored child and the sponsored parents. The focus of educational assistance is on South America, as the culture is closest to Bavarian. Ecuador is the largest project since the foundation was established.

Namesake

Former Minister President Alfons Goppel is the namesake of the foundation. Traveling gave him the idea of helping children in developing countries to have a structured future and a home. Even after his death in 1991, the foundation is continued by members of the family and their children (Ludger and Thomas Goppel and grandsons Gertrud, Martin and Alfons Goppel junior).

Board of Directors and Board of Trustees

The foundation board (Gerhard Hess and Alfons Goppel jun.) Is responsible for the management and implements the decisions of the foundation board. The Board of Trustees, whose members u. a. Angelika Niebler, Günther Fach, Claus Hipp , Harald Schultes, Gerald Kurz and members of the family supervise the management of the foundation's board of directors.

history

The foundation was established on January 8, 1980 with basic assets of DM 200,000 and began its work in Ecuador and Paraguay.

Even before the foundation was founded, a network of church and volunteer helpers with 180 sponsored children was established in Ecuador thanks to the many trips that the namesake took. Today the foundation looks after over 1,0000 sponsored children. In cooperation with funding from the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forests, the foundation also made it possible to build an agricultural school in the dry Chaco region in the middle of Paraguay during the founding years of the foundation. For more than 30 years, young professionals from Paraguay have been “brought” to Bavaria for training, only to return to Paraguay after two or three years as professionally qualified trainers and work at the agricultural training facility and for your region.

In 1990 the foundation expanded its aid projects to Brazil and Peru.
