Müzdat Yetkiner (born July 17, 1922 in Istanbul ; † November 23, 1994 there ) was a Turkish football player , coach and official. Through his many years of work for Fenerbahçe Istanbul and as a home-grown man, he is very strongly associated with this club and viewed by club and fan sites as one of the most important personalities in the club's history. He was also an interim team captain for the club. It is often confused with a later Fenerbahçe legend, Müjdat Yetkiner , as it is often incorrectly spelled as Müjdat Yetkiner . Both players are neither related nor related by marriage.

Player career

society

Yetkiner was born in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul , the hometown of Fenerbahçe Istanbul , and began playing football when he was ten. In 1938 he was brought into the Fenerbahçes youth department. It wasn't until 1941 that Yetkiner was accepted into the professional squad. The decisive factor in this late appointment was also the fact that a law was passed at that time that forbade the club to use students in their A-team. After Yetkiner had remained without a competitive game in the 1941/42 season, he came on September 13, 1942 in the game of the İstanbul Ligi (German Istanbul League ) against Taksim SK to use and made his professional debut. Since there was no international professional league in Turkey at the time, there were regional leagues instead in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which the İstanbul Ligi (also known as İstanbul Futbol Ligi) was considered the most famous. While Yetkiner came to four more league appearances this season, he captured a regular place in the Maarif Mükafatı following this season of the Istanbul League . In this national championship, designed as a kind of tournament and held irregularly, in which the teams from the three cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir participated, Yetkiner was used in 13 of a possible 14 games, scoring six goals and winning the tournament with his team.

Subsequently, Yetkiner was an integral part of the team until the mid-1950s. In the summer of 1952, the İstanbul Futbol Ligi was dissolved and transferred to a professional league system. From now on there are the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: Istanbul Professional League ) and the second highest division, the İstanbul İkinci Küme (German: Second Istanbul League ). Fenerbahçe played from then on in this Istanbul professional league. At that time, the club's management decided to carry out a squad revision with players from its own reserve and junior teams and still wanted to keep some experienced leading players in the squad. In addition to Yetkiner, his long-term colleagues Fikret Kırcan , Halit Deringör and Mehmet Ali Has stayed in the squad. This team, known as "Küçük Şeytanlar" (dt. Little Devils ), finished the first season of the Istanbul professional league in third place and surprisingly reached the championship in the 1952/53 season. After Yetkiner had played through these two seasons and the 1953/54 season as a regular player, he remained in the squad as a supplementary player in the 1954/55 season and did not get beyond sporadic missions. After this season he ended his career at the age of 33.

National team

Yetkiner began his national team career in 1950 with a commitment for the Turkish national team in a friendly against the Israeli national team . By the fall of 1954, he completed seven other missions and was the team captain in his last two international matches. Since a large part of his active football playing career had fallen during the Second World War , no international matches were played for eleven years and Yetkiner could only begin his national team career from 1948.

In addition to his A-international appearances, Yetkiner also played for the Turkish U-21 national team and for the second selection of the Turkish national team, for the B national team. During his missions for the U-21 team in his country, he was well over 21 years old.

Coaching career

Yetkiner switched to coaching shortly after the end of his playing career and began working as a youth coach at Fenerbahçe Istanbul in the summer of 1956 . He only carried out the activity for two months.
