The Městský fotbalový stadion Srbská (colloquially: Stadion na Srbské ) is a football stadium in the Moravian city of Brno . It is located in the Královo Pole district . The football club FC Zbrojovka Brno plays its home games here. The name is derived from the street Srbská ulice , on which the stadium is located. The capacity is 10,850 seats. The stadium consists of a covered main stand, uncovered seats on the back straight and standing room behind the goals.

history

The stadium was opened in 1952, and the final of the Czechoslovak athletics league took place here in the very first year. The football club Spartak Královo Pole , who played in the 1st Czechoslovak league in 1961/62 (as TJ Spartak KPS Brno ), it served as the home ground. Furthermore, sand track and horse races took place in the round with a capacity of 30,000 . Every five years, the Královo Pole Stadium , as it was then called, hosted the city's Spartakiad .

In the mid-1990s, the local football club SK LeRK left the city and moved to Prostějov ; the stadium stood empty and was in a desolate state. In the late 1990s, it was bought by DS Leasing , who were planning to build a ballpark on the site. However, when the stadium za Lužánkami , where 1. FC Brno played, fell into disrepair, the city of Brno decided to acquire the Královo Pole stadium and modernize it. In just four months, from June 2001 to September 2001, a comprehensive modernization was carried out that was close to a new building; the cost was around 110 million crowns . Then the 1. FC Brno left the stadium za Lužánkami and moved to the Městský fotbalový stadion Srbská .
