The main factor behind the population explosion since the 1970s is the ongoing immigration of families from the Rif Mountains .
economy
M'Diq was just a small fishing village for centuries . In addition to fishing , today's city is highly dependent on inner-Moroccan and European tourism (rental of holiday apartments, etc.). The smuggling of goods with Ceuta also plays a role that should not be underestimated.
history
Mentioned for the first time around 1860, the former fishing and pilgrimage town has experienced an enormous boom since the Spanish colonial rulers built a railway line and a road .
Attractions
The city is largely modern. The coastal promenade and the fishing port are well worth seeing.
