M10 is a four-span type of panel construction with ten storeys, which was mainly built in Magdeburg since the early 1970s.

construction

The M10 prefabricated building type is mostly built in pairs of entrances, i.e. H. a building consists of two entrances with 40 residential units each. The floor plans are organized in such a way that on each floor either two 4-room apartments (outside) and two 1-room apartments (inside) or two 3-room apartments (outside) and two 2-room apartments (inside) together lie. There are four loggias per entrance on the opposite side of the entrance. Depending on the type of apartment, they are assigned to the 2-, 3- or 4-room apartments. The inside bathrooms of the smaller apartments are from the P2 series and could be used with all connections in the existing shell of the floor. The kitchens are connected to the supply shaft of these bathrooms and can only be reached through the living room. The kitchen and bathrooms of the large apartments are accessible through the hallway. However, they shared a common window.

Apartments

One-room apartments

One-room apartments with an area of approx. 34 m² are usually arranged on the lower 4 floors in the middle and are only oriented in one direction. The room and kitchen have windows, the bathroom is on the inside.

Two-room apartments

These apartments with an area of approx. 51 m² are located on the floors above the one-room apartments. The second room has access to a loggia and is accessed via the first room. There is no additional hallway. The kitchen and bathroom are identical to those of the 1-room apartments.

Three-room apartments

In addition to the two-room apartments, there are two three-room apartments each with an area of approx. 68 m². A long hallway has a bathroom and kitchen, a room and, at the end, the living room with access to the loggia. Another room can be accessed from the living room.

Four-room apartments

In addition to the one-room apartments, there are two four-room apartments each with an area of approx. 84 m². The floor plan corresponds to that of the three-room apartments, but another room can be accessed from the hallway.

Development

The main entrance to the building is through a porch, which also housed the mailboxes. A garbage room was arranged next to the entrances. As with many prefabricated buildings in the GDR , the ground floor is raised half a storey above street level and can be reached via the internal staircase . In contrast to the widespread P2 type , elevators were always installed next to the stairwell in the M10 to access the levels from the basement to the 9th floor. To reach the apartments on the 10th floor, the stairwell must be used from the 9th floor. Barrier-free access is possible through separate ramps to the basement on the balcony side of the building. There are 4 apartments per floor . There is a small room on the stair landing in the gap between the elevator shaft and the outer wall. The garbage chute was housed here, which went into the garbage room next to the entrance. There the rubbish fell into a garbage can . This construction was dismantled in many houses because flaps that were too small made emptying the buckets difficult and the garbage thrown in often got stuck in the shaft.
