The MHG Heiztechnik GmbH , headquartered in Buchholz (formerly MAN Heiztechnik GmbH , based in Hamburg ) is a German provider heiztechnischer systems. The products include devices for fossil fuels and for renewable energies such as solar thermal and environmental heating . MHG is a pioneer in the introduction of intelligent “hybrid systems” - heating devices that combine different energy sources and types of use. Originally the company had produced marine engines.

history

The company was founded in 1927 as Wagner High Pressure Dampfturbinen AG (WAHODAG), which manufactured marine steam turbines and boilers. Their products were found, for example, in the East Asian steamships Gneisenau and Scharnhorst , the Reichsmarinekreuzer Brummer , the four destroyers of the Hamburg class , the training ship Deutschland of the German Navy and in the buoy laying ship Kapitän Meyer . The water tube boiler - and high-pressure turbine technology of the company has led the way in the ship's engine design of the Navy .

After the death of the founder, Rudolf Wagner, the name was changed to a limited partnership. In 1953, MAN took over the company, which initially operated under the name of Wahodag GmbH. In 1969 the first burner for standard household heating systems was presented. In 1977, under the influence of the oil crisis, the blue burner known as the "rocket burner" was launched, which was supposed to overcome the disadvantages of the usual "yellow burner". The name is based on the flame color, which was blue instead of yellow as before due to the higher combustion temperature. This was achieved by diverting some of the hot combustion gases to the injection nozzle and increasing the temperature there so that the oil droplets evaporate and burn as a gas mixed with the combustion air in a combustion chamber. The product was developed in collaboration with the German Aerospace Research Center (DLR) under the leadership of Winfried Buschulte . The advantages were that the blue burner burned the oil with almost no soot and the exhaust gases contained less nitrogen oxides and less carbon monoxide. The competitor company Weishaupt , which launched a blue burner at the end of the 1960s, was unable to establish itself at the time.

The technology was also built under license from DLR by competitors such as Buderus and Viessmann , who over time also sold their own models based on the same principle. MAN Heiztechnik received the Blue Angel eco- label for the rocket burner in 1981 .

In 2005 the company came to new owners through a management buy-out and has been trading as MHG Heiztechnik GmbH ever since . In 2006 the company headquarters moved to the new location in Buchholz; 100 employees stayed in Hamburg. In 2006 the MHG Group achieved sales of € 42 million with 160 employees; In 2012 it was over € 40 million with over 120 employees.
