The MPREIS Wenns branch is located in the St. Margarethen von Wenns district in Tyrol . The building was built between 2000 and 2001 according to plans by Rainer Köberl and Astrid Tschapeller .

The branch of the Tyrolean supermarket chain MPREIS , which has each market individually architecturally designed, is located on Pitztalstrasse at the northern entrance to St. Margarethen on the steep slope below the street. The cubic structure over a square floor plan stands on panes and support legs, underneath is the parking lot. The south and north walls are completely glazed, the east and west walls are made of exposed concrete with amorphous, glazed cutouts that loosen up the strictly geometric shape of the building.

In the south, towards the village, there is the café with an open terrace in front of the ramp to the parking lot. The platform leads to the side of the entrance and serves with the free-standing elevator to the street, the stairs and the canopy to access the supermarket. The surfaces inside are kept dark with a black synthetic resin floor , red-brown wall elements and a ceiling made of galvanized trapezoidal sheet metal .

For the construction, the architects were awarded the Architecture Prize of the State of Tyrol (2002) and the Prize for New Building in the Alps (2006). In 2003 the building was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Prize .
