Headquarters MTS Systems GmbH, head office in Berlin-Zehlendorf

The MTS Systems GmbH is a German subsidiary of MTS Systems Corporation (MTSC) . It is the European headquarters of the parent company and develops complex test and simulation systems as well as measurement and sensor technology . The annual turnover in the 2013/2014 financial year was EUR 49.6 million. MTS Systems GmbH employs over 100 people in Berlin-Zehlendorf and has an office in Stuttgart. The managing directors are Marcus Piepenschneider and Patrick Dhommee.

history

MTS Systems GmbH was founded in 1972 by Dave Sauer, Ralph Earl Skoe, Tom Kaufmann and Karl Jungmann. In 1992 the workforce moved to a new factory building. A year later the football club "Hardliners 93" was founded, which has already played against the company teams Audi- Ingolstadt and Daimler Chrysler , among others .

In 1996 the company was certified according to ISO 9001 for the first time. In 2012, the company's creditworthiness was given top marks.

In November 2017, the works council of MTS Systems GmbH took a position against the Siemens group management and denounced the site closings and the associated job cuts. In 2018, MTS Systems GmbH made headlines when employees donated 930 hours of overtime to their colleague Jens Rösener. He was able to use the time for his family.

Branches and subsidiaries

MTS Systems GmbH is headquartered in Berlin and also has a branch in Stuttgart-Vaihingen .

The MTS Sensor Technologie GmbH & Co. KG , based in Lüdenscheid ( Westphalia ) is a wholly owned subsidiary of MTS Systems GmbH. It emerged in 1989 from Hellwig GmbH. In 1994 the company received ISO 9001 certification for the first time. The company develops, produces and sells displacement transducers and level sensors based on magnetostrictive position measurement for machine and plant construction, for process and automation technology and for mobile hydraulics . In addition to Lüdenscheid, there are other locations in Hückelhoven and Berlin .

technology

MTS Systems GmbH

MTS Systems GmbH is active in the mobility and energy sectors as well as in biomedicine , mechanical engineering and the aerospace industry. The main field of activity of the company is the provision of test systems to customers from research and industry to determine the reliability of product properties. It monitors compliance with German and European quality standards, such as DIN and CE .

MTS Systems GmbH supported the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability (LBF) with a whole-vehicle test bench for road simulation that is unique in Germany. MTS test systems are also running in the Rolls-Royce Mechanical Test Center (MTOC) in Dahlewitz .

The company develops:

  • Components and test systems : cylinders and hydraulic components, regulators, clamping tools , clamping devices and accessories, hydraulic power units and distribution systems, single-axis and multi-axis load frames, test software, high-temperature test systems
  • Simulation systems: road simulators, simulation systems for tires and vehicle components, multi-axis and seismic simulation systems, environmental simulation systems

MTS Sensor Technologie GmbH & Co. KG

The displacement transducers and level sensors from MTS Sensor Technologie use the principle of magnetostriction . In 1970, the physicist J. Tellerman developed a position measuring system for MTS that works on the basis of magnetostriction: A position- giving permanent magnet acts on a (mostly rod-shaped) measuring element through which a current pulse is passed. When the magnetic fields of the permanent magnet and the current pulse meet, a torsional pulse is created which runs as a structure-borne sound wave at a constant ultrasonic speed to the ends of the waveguide. There it is converted into a distance-proportional signal or processed according to the desired output signal . The exact location is determined by a transit time measurement in which the magnet position is determined from the time between the start of the current pulse and the arrival of the electrical response signal, the body sound wave detected in the torsion converter . The magnetostrictive measuring principle works reliably at resolutions down to 1 µm with a repeat accuracy of 0.001%.

The company produces magnetostrictive sensors for various areas of application:

  • Position sensors for industry : metal processing, wood and paper processing, plastic and rubber processing, printing technology, glass and ceramic processing, handling systems , packaging systems, test and simulation systems, fluid technology , power generation
  • Position sensors for mobile hydraulics : construction machinery, agricultural machinery, rail transport, mining, vehicle construction, hoists and conveyors
  • Position sensors for the OEM market : medical technology, garden tools, household appliances, dosing technology, etc.
  • Level sensors for chemistry, pharmacy, laboratory technology, process, oil, gas, food and beverage industries
  • System solutions for wind power, entertainment, building monitoring , stadium construction
