Mable John

Mable John (* 3. November 1930 in Bastrop (Louisiana) ) is an American R & B - and Gospel - singer .

Life

Mable John is the sister of Little Willie John and was the first female singer to be released by Berry Gordy on his Motown forerunner label Tamla in the late 1950s . Her first own single was Who Wouldn't Love a Man Like This in 1961 , a blues number that, like her other recordings for Tamla, was not very successful. From 1962 she was a long-time member of the Ray Charles companion band Raelettes . Her popular songs include Your Good Thing Is About to End (which rose to # 6 on the R&B charts in 1966) and Running Out (1968). 1966–68 she also recorded for the Stax Records label , then turned to Christian music and founded Fourth House Music , a music publisher and artist agency. In 1994 she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Rhythm & Blues Foundation .
