The Macquarie Street is one of the main streets in downtown Hobart , the capital of the Australian state of Tasmania . It connects the city center with the Southern Outlet (A6), a city motorway going south, and the Huon Road (B64), a trunk road towards Huonville . Like its parallel street, Davey Street , it is a one-way street in the direction of downtown.

It begins near the historic Royal Engineers Building , where it connects to its counterpart Davey Street, the Eastern Outlet (A3) and the Brooker Highway (N1). The road has three or four lanes for almost its entire length. After exiting downtown, it becomes two lanes in South Hobart .

Macquarie Street is adjacent to Franklin Square , a large city park. Well-known buildings on this street are the Lands Building , which houses the Department of Primary Industries and Water , the Mercury Building , St. Davids Cathedral, and the Reserve Bank Building .

Trivia

Macquarie Street appears in the Australian version of the game Monopoly .
