Macrolophus rubi is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae). Some authors question its species status and synonymize it with the Mediterranean species Macrolophus costalis .
features
The bugs are 3.4 to 4.5 millimeters long. The species of the genus Macrolophus can be recognized by the dark lines between the rather small compound eyes and the pronotum . The species looks very similar to Macrolophus pygmaeus , but differs in the third segment of the antennae . This is about twice as long as the fourth instead of only about 1.75 times as long as in the similar species. The green clavus of the Hemielytren has a small black spot at its tip, the antennae are somewhat longer and the body length of the adults is also generally a bit longer than the similar species, although there are overlaps here.
Occurrence and habitat
The species is distributed from Western and Central Europe over the southeast to the Ukraine, the Caucasus and Kazakhstan. It has only been found sporadically in Germany, from Schleswig-Holstein to the northwest German lowlands, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate to Baden-Württemberg. It may be missing in the east. So far there is no evidence in Austria.
Way of life
The bugs allegedly feed on Rubus species and have also been found together with Macrolophus pygmaeus on forest ziest ( Stachys sylvatica ). Like the other species in the genus, Macrolophus rubi is also zoophytophag. The overwintering probably takes place as an egg. The adults occur from late June to September. The bugs are particularly found on tobacco plants .
