A dragonfly previously known as Libellula celeno servedas the generotype . The distribution area extends from Arizona and southern Texas across Central America to central Argentina
features
Macrothemis species are comparatively small to medium-sized dragonflies and reach lengths between 29 and 52 millimeters. The brownish or black abdomen is heavily thinned in the middle and thicker again towards the back. As on the abdomen, there are white and yellow spots or stripes on the blackish or brownish chest ( thorax ). In some species, the otherwise transparent wings of the females are colored brown.
Habitat
Macrothemis - adults occur along rivers and hunt especially in places where the water flows quickly through stony terrain. The larvae in turn occur in both standing and flowing water. However, they prefer slower water regions in rivers. They often dig themselves into the ground.
