Madadeni is a township settlement in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal . It is the eastern neighbor of the city of Newcastle and belongs to the municipality of the same name Newcastle in the district of Amajuba . Madadeni lies at an altitude of 1220 meters above sea level. In 2011 the place had almost 120,000 inhabitants on an area of 28 square kilometers. The Ngagane flows past Madadeni and separates the city from Newcastle. At the level of Madadeni the Ncandu flows into the Ngagane.
Madadeni is connected to the N11 and the R34 to the trunk road network via Newcastle . However, the public infrastructure in Madadeni itself is in great need of renovation or does not exist at all. The streets are narrow and the sewer system is poor. Despite its proximity to Newcastle, Madadeni can partly be classified as rural. Parts of the city are also administered by traditional rulers .
