Madeleine Herren-Oesch

Madeleine Herren-Oesch (born January 26, 1956 in Bern ) is a Swiss historian .

Madeleine Herren-Oesch studied history and German at the University of Bern. She wrote her licentiate thesis on "Aspects of cisleithan social policy " and in 1989 her dissertation on "International social policy before the First World War from the perspective of the Third French Republic". 1997 habilitation them with "back doors to power. Internationalism and Modernization-Oriented Foreign Policy in Belgium, Switzerland and the USA 1865–1914 ”. From 2004 to 2013 Madeleine Herren-Oesch was Professor of Modern History at Heidelberg University . Since April 1, 2013, she has been head of the European Institute at the University of Basel .
