Madison is a place in Madison County in the US state Mississippi , about 20 kilometers north of the capital Jackson . Madison is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area . At the 2010 census , the city had 24,841 inhabitants, in 2000 it was around 14,600, which corresponds to a population increase of over 70%.

Bruce Campbell Field Airport is located in the southeast of the city . There are also various schools in Madison, including the Madison Central High School and the Madison-Ridgeland Public School , and churches, including the Episcopal Chapel of the Cross , the Simmons Arboretum and a city park with a playground, Strawberry Patch Park .

Mary Hawkins Butler has been mayor of the city since 1981 .

As a result of a tornado on the night of November 23rd to 24th, 2001, there was severe devastation in Madison, which reached level F4 on the Fujita scale . At least 18 people in Madison County were injured.
