Madre de Deus (Portuguese for: Mother of God) is an island and city in All Saints Bay (Brazil), which received city rights on June 13, 1989. The previous name was Ilha de Cururupebas . The island is about 60 kilometers from the capital of Bahia , Salvador da Bahia , and can be reached via the BA-523 state road . A bridge crosses the mainland about 100 meters away and can be reached on foot at low tide.

As of July 1, 2019, an estimated 21,093 people called Madre-Deusenser ( madre-deusenses ) lived on the 11 km² main island of the municipality . The nearby islands of Ilha das Vacas , Ilha de Coroa do Capeta and Ilha de Maria Guarda, which are also part of the municipality , are uninhabited. Together they result in a community area of ​​around 32.2 km². They are part of the Protected Area Área de Proteção Ambiental da Baía de Todos-os-Santos .
