Maevatana is a city and capital of the Betsiboka region in Madagascar .

The city is located on the Ikopa River and the national road 4 Mahajanga - Antananarivo .
history
In 1885, Madagascar France was awarded as an "area of interest" at the Berlin Congo Conference . During the fighting to conquer the coffee and rice plantations of Maevatanana, not only the locals but also many French soldiers lost their lives. A memorial from 1895, in the immediate vicinity of the only gas station in Maevatanana, commemorates around 300 French soldiers who died.
Economy and Infrastructure
The agriculture represents around 60 percent of the major economic sector of the community. The majority of the population of the municipality are farmers. The main crops are rice , tobacco and sweet potato . Fishing employs 13 percent of the population.
