Maggie's Madness is a German hard rock / heavy metal band from Nuremberg .

history

1974 to 1981: foundation and debut album

The band was founded in 1974 in Nuremberg by guitarists Franz Zellner and Joe Bleicher as an amateur band during the rock era . The initial line-up included Bernd Krieger (bass) and Hans Georg von Schuh (drums). First they covered and the band quickly gained a regional reputation in the club and party scene. At the same time, their own songs were composed and included in the program. After Herwig Mayer joined the band on the keyboards in 1976 , the cover was given up entirely. In 1978 the band was forced to take a creative break as three of the band members were drafted into military service. Mayer then left for personal reasons, and Peter Tobolla took over the electric bass from Bernd Krieger, who helped set up the music center (MUZ) in the following years . In the following years the typical Maggie's Madness sound was created with songs that are still part of the live repertoire today and are repeatedly requested by fans, such as "Lady Starlight" or "Space Base"

1980 to 1984

In 1980 Michael Dudek took over the role as singer of the band. With him, the debut album Maggie's Madness was recorded in 1980 at the Brutkasten recording studio in Nuremberg and mixed by Peter Klimek and Klaus Back († 2010). It contains original compositions of the hard rock genre with catchy melodies, including the titles mentioned above. It was released as a long-playing record in 1981 and achieved some notable successes. Today the album is a coveted rare vinyl in collectors 'circles and regularly achieves prices many times the initial price on collectors' fairs.

In addition, from 1982 Wolfgang Lang strengthened the line-up on the keyboards. This made the band's sound much more variable. At that time Maggie's Madness were known regionally for their elaborate stage show with pyrotechnics, laser show, etc. and had already achieved cult status. The concerts were regularly sold out and the band was present in the media.

The band then toured across Europe during the 1980s, including A. with Accept, Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash and Herman Brood (†) and was signed to the Belgian label Mausoleum Records .

In 1983 Maggie's Madness produced the LP On Fire in the recording studio Schlossprüfung in Regensburg with Jürgen Weigt at the mixing desk. This album was first released as a vinyl long-playing record in 1983, entered the international heavy metal charts and was reissued in 2016. After the release of this LP Peter Tobolla left the band and was initially replaced by Siggi Doreth, who in turn passed the bass on to Harald Schuster in 1984.

1985 to 1987

Events rolled over in 1985; Mausoleum Records initially went bankrupt and the band switched to Roadrunner Records . With Friedel Ammon (Revolver) as producer, a third album was produced in the HorusSound Studio in Hanover. Without consulting the band, Roadrunner Records released this under the arbitrarily changed band name Wildcat , because they wanted to avoid complications with the ska band Madness , which was active at the same time . In addition, the sexist album cover of Love Attack in Germany , created by the record company, landed on the index and on the no-play lists . Internationally, however, the album sold surprisingly well. In the course of this, Harald Schuster handed over the part of bass player to Michael Andrasch, who, however, after a short guest appearance made room for Peter Tobolla, who finally found his way back to the band.

However, the band broke their contract with Roadrunner. Hans Georg von Schuh and Jochen Bleicher then left the group. Peter Tobolla, Franz Zellner and Mike Dudek hired the then largely unknown drummer Daniel Zimmermann (later Gamma Ray, Freedom Call) and successfully continued the band until 1987 under the name "Wildcat". Then the musicians parted ways.

Franz Zellner founded his own label and the StarlightSoundStudio in Nuremberg in 1989 . With Peter Tobolla on bass, Jo Schmidt on drums and Robbo Stöltzel as singer, he has released several albums under the name Private Angel in the Adult Orientated Rock genre .

2000s

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its founding in 2014, Maggie's Madness initially produced the double CD "Waking Up the Dead" with ex-Chainbreaker singer Eddie Rößler and has since been seen live again. At the end of 2017 the fifth studio album "Pushed to the Limit" followed . The sixth studio album Rock The Nation was released in 2019 . Keyboard player Wolfgang Lang left the band around the same time and was replaced by Thilo Boegner.
